Polish tenor stars in the Metropolitan Opera production
broadcasted on PBs in the Great Performances at the Met series

Luisa Miller
by Giuseppe Verdi

Starring: Sonya Yoncheva, Piotr Beczala and Plácido Domingo

Piotr Beczala won the 2018 Male Singer of the Year
award at the International Opera Awards in London.

From the Marcus Theaters announcement: "Fathom Events and The Met: Live in HD present a broadcast of Verdi’s Luisa Miller, live in select cinemas nationwide on Saturday, April 14. Plácido Domingo stars in this rarely performed Verdi gem, a heart-wrenching tragedy of fatherly love. Sonya Yoncheva sings the title role opposite Piotr Beczala in the first Met performances of the opera in more than ten years.

From the 4/1/2018 review on the OperaWire: "The Polish tenor received the biggest ovation of this performance with his “Quando le sere al placido” in which he laments the betrayal of Luisa. It was a stunning rendition that showcased his extreme pathos as he glided through the passage with his deep and rich tone; it was as if Beczala was the only person present in the entire opera house for this show stopper and he continued to triumph throughout."

From the 3/31/2018 review on the BroadwayWorld: "Piotr Beczala makes his role debut as Rodolfo. He made his company debut in 2006 as the Duke in Verdi's Rigoletto, and his Met repertory includes Rodolfo in Puccini's La Bohème, Vaudémont in the company premiere of Iolanta, Lensky in Eugene Onegin, the title role of Gounod's Faust, Edgardo in Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor with the company, the Chevalier des Grieux in Massenet's Manon, and Gustavo in Verdi's Un Ballo in Maschera. His other performances include Don José in Bizet's Carmen at the Wiener Staatsoper, Edgardo in Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor at Bayerische Staatsoper, and Riccardo in Verdi's Un Ballo in Maschera. Later this year, he will sing the title role of Massenet's Werther and reprise his role of Prince Sou-Chong in Lehár's Das Land des Lächelns at Zürich Opera. Next season, he will sing Maurizio in Cilea's Andriana Lecouvreur at the Met's New Year's Eve Gala."
