OF ANIMALS AND MEN
(pl. O zwierzętach i ludziach)
Presented on June 22 simultaneously in all major movie theaters across the United States, this documentary presents the real protagonists of the story portrayed earlier in the 2017 movie The Zookeeper’s Wife.
The documentary - screened at the 32nd Polish Film Festival in Chicago - is a debut of Łukasz Czajka, director, game designer and TV reporter. He graduated from the Faculty of Political Sciences and Latin American Studies at the University of Warsaw, as well as the documentary program Dok Pro at the international Wajda School in Warsaw.
From the Marcus Theatres website: In times of war, the most endangered species was man. Under the Nazis’ noses, about 300 people, mainly Jews, found shelter at the Warsaw Zoo during the Second World War. Of Animals and Men tells the amazing story of how the Zabinski family; the Warsaw zookeepers, helped rescue and hide Jews during these horrid times. Film will be dubbed in English and include a 12-minute clip of how the zoo looks like today, the zookeepers house, and zoo cages where the Jews were hidden. Additionally, there will be an interview with Teresa Zabinska (their daughter), which was not included in the documentary.
